Dr. Ariful Islam is an accomplished physician specializing in Internal Medicine, with over 17 years of extensive clinical, academic, and critical care experience. He completed his MBBS from Ibrahim Medical College (BIRDEM), under the University of Dhaka. To further enhance his medical expertise, he obtained the FCPS in Internal Medicine from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS), followed by the prestigious MRCP (UK) from the Royal College of Physicians.
Since 2024, Dr. Ariful Islam has been serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Bikrampur Bhuiyan Medical College Hospital. He also brings his expertise to the Health Unit of the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka, where he has been working as a Consultant Physician since 2021.
Prior to these roles, he worked as a Junior Consultant in Internal Medicine at United Hospital Ltd., Gulshan. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he served as a frontline physician from the earliest days of the outbreak, playing a crucial role in managing COVID-19 patients across Emergency and Internal Medicine departments. This experience significantly strengthened his competencies in critical care, respiratory support, and infectious disease management.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Ariful Islam spent nearly a decade as a Senior Medical Officer at BIRDEM General Hospital, gaining broad-based experience in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Nephrology (including hemodialysis), Neuromedicine, Dermatology & Venereology, CCU, and ICU care. He completed a structured FCPS Part II academic course at Dhaka Medical College and began his clinical journey with internship and subsequent service as an Honorary Medical Officer at BIRDEM.
His clinical expertise covers the full spectrum of internal medicine and emergency care. He is proficient in the management of critically ill patients requiring mechanical ventilation, hemodialysis, advanced life support, and complex metabolic or infectious disease care. His procedural skills include endotracheal intubation, central venous catheterization, hemodialysis catheter insertion, shock management, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Ariful Islam is actively engaged in medical research, with several publications in national journals. His contributions include original research on the correlation between hepatitis severity and dengue hemorrhagic fever, a notable case report on prolonged abdominal discomfort in the Bangladesh Critical Care Journal, and a study exploring vitamin D levels in psoriasis patients in relation to disease severity.
