Dr. Fatema Begum is a highly accomplished obstetrician and gynaecologist with extensive clinical, academic, and leadership experience across several renowned healthcare institutions in Bangladesh. She began her medical journey with an MBBS from Sir Salimullah Medical College, under the University of Dhaka. She subsequently earned an FCPS in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) and a Diploma in Gynaecology and Obstetrics (DGO) from Dhaka Medical College under BSMMU. To further enhance her diagnostic expertise, she completed a Certificate Course in Ultrasonography from the Bangladesh Society of Ultrasonography.
Throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Fatema has held a range of progressive academic and clinical leadership positions. These include serving as Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Shahabuddin Medical College & Hospital, Dhaka, and as Associate Professor, Head of Department, and Associate Professor (CC) at Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College & Hospital, Enayetpur, Sirajganj. Earlier, she also worked as an Assistant Professor in the same specialty. In addition, she has gained extensive tertiary-care experience through clinical roles at Asgar Ali Hospital, Central Hospital Ltd., Square Hospitals Ltd., Delta Hospital Ltd., and Farida Clinic & Infertility Management Center. Her responsibilities have encompassed comprehensive patient care, academic supervision, clinical governance, infertility services, and the management of high-risk obstetric cases.
Dr. Fatema’s commitment to lifelong learning is evident in her wide range of specialized training and professional development activities. She has completed an online course in Reproductive Medicine and Assisted Reproductive Technology from the Infertility Care & Research Center (ICRC), Dhaka, as well as an advanced course in Reproductive Medicine at the Prashanth Fertility Research Centre, Chennai. She also holds a Fellowship in Cosmetic Gynaecology from the American Aesthetic Association, Dubai, and has received formal training in Basic Laparoscopic Surgery at BIRDEM. Furthermore, she has undertaken multiple honorary attachments at Dhaka Medical College, BSMMU, the Maternal and Child Health Training Institute, infertility units, and radiology and imaging departments, broadening her multidisciplinary clinical expertise.
Alongside her clinical and academic roles, Dr. Begum has made notable scholarly contributions to the field of obstetrics and gynaecology. She has authored and co-authored numerous research articles in national and international journals, addressing topics such as eclampsia, cesarean section prevalence, infertility evaluation, obstetric complications, postoperative outcomes, adenomyosis, postpartum depression, menstrual regulation, and rare case reports. Her research underscores a strong commitment to evidence-based practice and the advancement of maternal and reproductive health in Bangladesh.
