Dr. Israt Zahan is a dedicated psychiatrist with a strong background in mental health care, research, and teaching. She specializes in diagnosing and managing a wide range of psychiatric and neuropsychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, geriatric psychiatric conditions, and substance-related disorders. Her expertise extends to forensic psychiatry, psychotherapy, and holistic patient care.

She completed her MBBS from Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College under the University of Dhaka and later pursued FCPS in Psychiatry from Bangladesh College of Physicians & Surgeons (BCPS).

Currently, Dr. Israt Zahan serves as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Northern International Medical College & Hospital. She has also contributed as a Guest Lecturer in Forensic Psychiatry at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

She has also served as a Consultant at MHPSS, HCMP, BRAC and a Medical Officer at Shastho Batayan under DGHS and Maa Tele Health Centre.

Dr. Israt Zahan is actively involved in psychiatric research and was the Principal Investigator of a study on “Substance Abuse Among Street Children in Selected Areas of Dhaka City.” Her research reflects her commitment to addressing mental health issues in vulnerable populations.

She has undergone specialized training in Addiction Management, Early Detection of Mental Health Conditions, EEG for Postgraduate Psychiatry Students, Systemic Family Therapy, and Basic Life Support. She is proficient in multiple psychotherapy techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Motivational Interviewing, and Suicide Risk Assessment.

Dr. Israt Zahan is an active member of the Bangladesh Association of Psychiatrists (BAP), the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC), and Shandhani, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College. With a strong foundation in clinical practice, research, and medical education, she plays a vital role in advancing psychiatry in Bangladesh. Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Zahan is deeply committed to compassionate patient care, ensuring a personalized and empathetic approach to mental health treatment.
