Dr. Sumiya Akther is a highly trained and committed radiologist, bringing years of expertise in diagnostic imaging and medical education. She holds an MD in Radiology and Imaging from the prestigious Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), one of the foremost institutions for postgraduate medical education in Bangladesh. Her medical journey began with an MBBS from Dinajpur Medical College, where she built a strong clinical foundation before focusing her career on radiological sciences. To further refine her skills, she completed specialized training as a House Medical Officer (HMO) in Radiology and Imaging at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, gaining hands-on experience in a high-volume tertiary care environment.

Dr. Sumiya’s career reflects a balanced integration of clinical excellence, academic involvement, and compassionate patient care.  She has served as a Radiologist at the Centre for Women and Child Health (CWCH), contributing significantly to women’s health through accurate and timely radiological evaluations. Her clinical journey continued at Sheikh Fazilatunnessa KPJ Specialized Hospital, where she worked as a Specialist in Radiology, managing advanced imaging cases across diverse patient populations.

In parallel with her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Sumiya has also made valuable contributions to medical education. She served as an Assistant Professor at International Medical College, where she mentored undergraduate students and participated in curriculum development, bridging academic knowledge with practical application in radiological sciences.

Her clinical expertise covers a wide spectrum of diagnostic procedures, including general ultrasonography (USG), joint USG, color Doppler studies, X-ray imaging, USG-guided fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), ultrasound-guided aspirations, and the interpretation of CT scans and MRI. She is particularly skilled in using non-invasive imaging techniques to assist in early and accurate diagnosis, playing a critical role in patient management across departments.

With her strong academic background, hands-on clinical proficiency, and patient-centered approach, Dr. Sumiya Akther is dedicated to advancing the field of radiology in Bangladesh.
