Brig Gen, Retd (Dr) Md Taharul Alam, a distinguished Radiologist and Professor from the Army Medical Corps, stands as a seasoned professional with over 29 years of comprehensive experience in the field of Radiology & Imaging.
Dr. Taharul Alam commenced his career as an administrator in the Army Medical Corps, where he served for about 8 years before delving into Radiology. Over his eminent career, he has contributed significantly to various military hospitals, including Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Dhaka, CMH Jassore, Bogura, Ghatail and Savar.
Dr. Taharul Alam played a pivotal role in the strategic development of the Radiology & Imaging department at CMH Dhaka, overseeing the planning and execution of a 5-storied department as part of infrastructural enhancement. His belief in holistic development is reflected in his commitment to the flawless operation of radiology departments in different hospitals throughout his service.
A pioneer in soft copy radiology reporting, Dr. Taharul Alam has guided numerous students who qualified for MCPS and FCPS showcasing his teaching expertise. His commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements is evident in his pioneering efforts in introducing teleradiology in Bangladesh since 2012.
Internationally, Dr. Taharul Alam contributed to the UNAMIR field Hospital in Rwanda in 1994 and served in BANMED -1 in 2003 and BANMED – 7 in 2010 during the United Nations missions in Liberia (UNMIL).
Dr. Taharul Alam completed his MBBS in 1985 and pursued further studies with a Grading Course in Radiology & Imaging, MCPS in Radiology & Imaging, and FCPS in Radiology & Imaging. He has attended various courses, including IR training from Turkey and a course on Radiation Protection in Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission.
Dr. Taharul Alam has multiple publications as a principal and co-author in reputable journals such as the Bangladesh Army Journal, Journal of Armed Forces Medical Institute, and Journal of Bangladesh Society of Radiology & Imaging.
He also served as the Vice President of Bangladesh Society of Radiology & Imaging, Co-Chairman of the Faculty of Radiology & Imaging at BCPS, and a Life Member of various professional societies. His dedication and contributions were also acknowledged with the prestigious “Radiologist of the Year 2019” award from BSRI.
