Pathologist

Professor Dr. Shaheen Ara Begum is a highly respected medical academician, microbiologist, and clinical pathologist with decades of experience in medical and dental education, diagnostic medicine, and laboratory leadership in Bangladesh. She is the former Professor and Head, Department of Pathology with Microbiology at Dhaka Dental College.

She completed her MBBS from Rajshahi Medical College and earned an MPhil in Microbiology from Dhaka Medical College (University of Dhaka). She also holds a Diploma in Medical Ultrasound Diagnosis (DMUD) from the University of Science and Technology, Chattogram, reflecting her multidisciplinary expertise in laboratory and clinical diagnostics.

Dr. Begum has held senior academic positions at Dhaka Dental College and Cumilla Medical College, where she played a key role in strengthening academic standards and modernizing laboratory services. She has taught MBBS and BDS students and trained laboratory professionals across government and private institutions.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she supervised the establishment of multiple RT-PCR laboratories and actively participated in testing, demonstrating strong leadership in diagnostic services. She has also served as a question setter, moderator, and examiner for the University of Dhaka, University of Chattogram, and Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS).

A Life Member of the Bangladesh Society of Medical Microbiologists, Professor Dr. Shaheen Ara Begum has authored 11 peer-reviewed publications and participated in numerous national and international conferences, presenting research in microbiology and pathology. Her career reflects a rare combination of academic rigor, clinical expertise, and institutional leadership, making her a highly respected figure in Bangladesh’s medical and diagnostic landscape.
