With an impressive career spanning nearly 25 years, Brig. Gen. (Retd) Prof. Dr. Tanvir Islam is an experienced and highly sought-after Colorectal Surgeon. He completed his MBBS degree and pursued specialized training in Surgery, earning an FCPS (Fellowship in Surgery) from the Bangladesh College of Physicians & Surgeons (BCPS). To further enhance his expertise in Colorectal Surgery, he completed a prestigious Fellowship in Colorectal Surgery at the National University Hospital in Singapore.
Throughout his career, Dr. Tanvir has undertaken various other courses and training programs to augment his skills and knowledge. Notably, he completed a Grading Course in Surgery at Armed Forces Medical Institute, a Post Fellowship Training in Colorectal Surgery at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), and GI Oncology surgery training at TATA Memorial Center in Kolkata, India.
Dr. Tanvir’s academic achievements are complemented by his involvement in professional memberships, including the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC), Bangladesh College of Physicians & Surgeons (BCPS), Society of Surgeons of Bangladesh, and Bangladesh Society of Colorectal Surgeons. He actively contributes to medical research and has several publications to his credit, demonstrating his commitment to advancing medical knowledge.
Dr. Tanvirul Islam served as a Professor & Head of the Department of Surgery at Armed Forces Medical College. He has held the position of General & Colorectal Surgeon, as well as Head of Colorectal Surgery, at Combined Military Hospital, Dhaka. He also worked as a General Surgeon at various prestigious institutions, including Bangladesh Naval Ship Patenga, Chattogram, and UN level –II Hospital, United Nations Mission in Liberia, Liberia.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Tanvir is actively involved in teaching medical students. He serves as a Clinical Tutor for both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education at Armed Forces Medical College, Dhaka, and Armed Forces Medical Institute, Dhaka. As Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Armed Forces Medical College, Bangladesh, he contributes to the dissemination of medical research.
