Dr. Fakhrul Imam is a Consultant in Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery with over a decade of experience in oral surgery, maxillofacial trauma management, and comprehensive dental care. He is recognized for his patient-centered approach and his ability to build strong doctor–patient relationships, ensuring safe, effective, and high-quality treatment outcomes.
He completed his BDS from Bangladesh Dental College and Hospital, followed by MCPS in Dental Surgery and FCPS in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons. His extensive academic training and clinical exposure have enabled him to develop advanced expertise in both surgical and restorative dental procedures. Dr. Fakhrul Imam has also recently joined Oman Medical Journal as a Peer Reviewer and has successfully reviewed his first international article.
Dr. Imam is currently serving as a Consultant in Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery at a reputed hospital in Gazipur, where he manages a wide range of complex oral and maxillofacial conditions. Earlier, he worked as a Medical Officer in the Department of Dental Surgery at BIRDEM General Hospital, Shahbag, gaining valuable experience in hospital-based dental and surgical care. He has also been actively practicing as an Oral and Dental Surgeon in leading private healthcare facilities in Dhaka, treating a broad spectrum of dental and oral health conditions.
He has contributed to specialized surgical care as an Assistant Surgeon and Project Coordinator in cleft lip and palate surgery initiatives in collaboration with international surgical teams under the SNAD Foundation.
His clinical expertise includes the management of maxillofacial trauma, jaw tumors and cysts, impacted teeth, oral ulcers, oral cancer, cleft lip and palate, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, and salivary gland diseases. He is also experienced in comprehensive dental care, including restorative dentistry, endodontic treatments, crowns and bridges, periodontal care, and dental prosthetics.
Dr. Imam has contributed to both national and international dental and medical literature, with research interests spanning oral cancer diagnostics, salivary biomarkers, maxillofacial surgery, aesthetic outcomes, and the management of oral conditions. His publications include studies on oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), including the analysis of serum and salivary lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and serum uric acid as potential diagnostic and screening markers. His research also covers surgical and aesthetic approaches to orbital fractures, rare maxillofacial conditions such as myositis ossificans of the masseter, and the management of alveolar osteitis. In addition, he has contributed clinical studies evaluating treatments for Burning Mouth Syndrome, including clonazepam mouthwash and alpha-lipoic acid.
